In this use case, we present how our EIPHS 705 INOX 316 UV 9 kW culture chamber offers an exceptional test environment for algae cultivation, incorporating an advanced UV-C lighting system. This equipment has been designed to provide precise control of temperature, humidity and lighting, ensuring optimal results in algae and plant growth studies.

 

1. Aim of the Project

The client needed a multifunctional cultivation chamber that would allow:

  • Algae cultivation and controlled plant growth.
  • Use two types of lighting: one to promote growth (LED in the range of 400 to 760 nm) and another based on UV lighting for photodegradation tests or simulation of extreme environmental conditions.
  • Maintain a stable temperature, which is essential to achieve uniformity in the tests, without the radiation from the UV lamps affecting the environmental parameters of the chamber.

 

2. The Solution: EIPHS 705 INOX 316 UV 9 kW culture chamber

Based on our experience in the design and manufacture of climatic chambers, our engineering team adapted the EGCHS 755 model to create the EIPHS 705 INOX 316 UV 9 kW. Its main features include:

  • Customised and robust design:
    The chamber is manufactured from high quality steel (AISI 316), ensuring greater resistance to UV radiation and facilitating efficient cleaning thanks to its rounded interiors. Its design incorporates a tempered glass inner door, which allows the visualisation of cultivation processes without compromising operational safety.
  • Precise Control of Environmental Conditions:
    With a temperature range of +10°C to +55°C and a uniformity of ±0.5°C under normal test conditions, the chamber maintains a stable environment. When working with UV lamps, the uniformity is adjusted to ±1°C without affecting the essential conditions of the crop.
  • Dual Illumination System:
    The EIPHS 705 INOX 316 integrates two types of light trays:
    1. A fixed high power (6 kW) tray located at the top, offering robust UV Illumination to simulate intensive radiation exposure conditions.
    2. A mobile tray (approximately 3 kW) that allows adjusting the LED light exposure in the photosynthetic range, ideal for algae cultivation and plant growth.
  • Efficient Horizontal Airflow:
    The horizontal air circulation system ensures even distribution of heat and radiation, resulting in a uniform environment throughout the culture chamber, essential for replicable trials.
  • Advanced Control and Monitoring:
    Equipped with a microprocessor-based 4500 series controller with 7″ touch screen, the system allows real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity and light exposure levels (lux and W-h/m²). In addition, it incorporates a data logger that stores measurements every 15 seconds for up to 30 days.

The EIPHS 705 INOX 316 UV 9 kW is positioned as a complete solution for:

  • Algae cultivation:
    Thanks to the combination of LED illumination in the photosynthetic range (400-760 nm) and the possibility to adjust movable trays, the chamber supports the growth and productivity of algae in in vitro or in vivo tests.
  • Photodegradation Tests and Simulation of Extreme Environments:
    The incorporation of a UV Illumination system allows photodegradation testing of materials or evaluation of algae resistance to environmental conditions that simulate the outdoors.
